The request for information has been sent to Finncantieri of Italy and DCN International of France.
Offshore vessels patrol and police the maritime zones of India and island territories, including surveillance of the living and nonliving marine resources; narcotics, drug and contraband smuggling; immigration and emigration; interdiction operations; search-and-rescue missions; and medical evacuation.
Secondary tasks will include limited response to oil spillage, firefighting capability and towing.
The vessel should be 95.5 meters long and the draught of propellers fully loaded should not exceed 5 meters. Maximum speed while fully loaded should be 32 knots with a sustained speed of 28 knots. It should be able to cruise 5,500 nautical miles, said a senior Defence Ministry official.
The vessel should be able to operate in tropical conditions and serve for 25 years. The vessel should be powered by twin diesel engines that can be air started and turbocharged.
The coast guard requires the vessel to be armed with one 30mm gun and should be able to stow one twin-engine helicopter and operational role equipment.
Currently, the coast guard has four advance offshore patrol vessels and nine offshore patrol vessels.
